Does my electrical panel need to be upgraded for an EV charger?
Sometimes — older homes especially may not have the spare capacity for a Level 2 charger without a panel upgrade. We assess this before quoting the install, not after.
Do I need a permit for a home EV charger?
Generally yes, in most Orange County jurisdictions. We handle the permit and inspection coordination as part of the install.
Can this be done at the same time as HVAC work?
Often, yes — if you're already having electrical work done for an HVAC upgrade, it can make sense to bundle in an EV charger install.
The panel comes first — then the charger
Every EV charger quote that skips your electrical panel is incomplete, because the panel decides everything. A Level 2 charger adds a substantial continuous load, and plenty of Orange County homes — especially anything wired before the 1990s — are already closer to capacity than their owners realize once you count the AC, the pool pump, and the kitchen. So we start with a real load calculation: what your service actually supports, whether load management solves it, or whether a panel upgrade genuinely belongs in the project. Then the install itself is straightforward code-correct work — proper breaker sizing, correct wire gauge for the run length, permit and inspection included. If you're also eyeing a heat pump conversion, we'll plan panel capacity for both at once, which beats discovering the limit one project too late.
